Out of Hours Cover Update

We normally see all emergencies at our Green Lane clinic, but COVID has finally caught up with us.

Anne will not be able to meet clients or other staff face to face until August 25th due to quarantine restrictions, and Rob will be isolating until at least 27th August

As a result, we have taken the decision to outsource our out-of-hours cover to Swift emergencies in Wetherby for the foreseeable future.

During this period, there will be no out-of-hours service operating from our Green Lane surgery.

Our nurses will take emergency calls as usual on 01904 393 393 and should be able to advise whether your pet needs to see a vet urgently
In such an event, our nurses will redirect you to Swift Emergencies in Wetherby. (Unit 706 Ave E W, LS23 7GA, 01937 374 888) They will also be available to call directly if you feel your pet needs urgent attention.
Swift Emergencies is a dedicated emergency out-of-hours provider for local veterinary practices
They have world-class facilities and dedicated staff working around the clock to ensure patients receive the highest standard of care. They are available throughout the night, even if it is only for advice, to put both you and your pet at ease during this worrying time
If your pet needs to be seen, they will give you directions and an indication of the relevant consultation fees. They are 11.5miles, or 20 minutes away from our Surgery on Green Lane. Their emergency fees start at £90 for a consultation before midnight and £150 for a consultation after midnight. A guide to their other charges can be found here.

Queen’s State Funeral Monday 19 September 2022

Monday 19 September, the date of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral, Green Vets will be closed for routine appointments so that our staff and clients can pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate Her reign while marking the final day of the period of national mourning. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by rescheduling previously made appointments. Our out-of-hours service will operate as normal if your pet needs urgent medical attention during the bank holiday.

Winter Fundraiser

Green Vets Winter Fundraiser Sunday 19th December 2021
Green Vets would like to invite you to our winter fundraising event.

It will take place on Sunday 19th December between 1-3 pm, at our surgery on Green Lane.

There are stalls with games for all of the family, arts-and-crafts, and homemade produce.

We have a raffle with some great prizes, including a voucher for a hand-painted portrait of your pet, and free booster vaccinations.

For a mere £2, tickets are available to gain access to our Gluhwein tent for a mince pie and a glass of our infamous Mulled wine.

There is a tombola of bottles, kindly donated by our clients – if you have any spare bottles (any content from shampoo to alcohol will do) we would love to have some more for a super tombola.

All proceeds will go to the RSPCA Animal Home in York. This winter, the charity needs your help more than ever.

Our staff and volunteers are looking forward to welcoming you on Sunday 19th December!

Green Vets are going mobile

Green Vets Mobile First Aid Unit
Green Vets mobile first aid unit

We’ve rescued a buggy from a skip and upcycled it to become our mobile first aid unit

During the weekends we will be providing fresh water and first aid to hot and bothered canines around York’s popular dog walking spots. This Sunday we will be at the York Racecourse near Cherry Lane car park. We would love to meet your furry friends and give them a tasty treat. Don’t hesitate to approach us if you have any pet health questions. It’s free!

A tale of windows and doors

When we designed the building we were faced with some expensive choices. The UPVC windows were of very poor quality and had to be replaced. Energy efficiency was always on top of our list. After taking into consideration aesthetics and durability, we opted for aluminium frames from Reveal, a Yorkshire based company. Aluminium is a much more robust material for use as a window frame. With proper care, it can be fitted to last almost infinitely, whilst being fairly low maintenance.

Recycled towels and bedding as kennel liners

A big thank you to Janet and all her contacts at Mipilates York
Our patients will be grateful for the towels and blankets that will line their kennels during their stay at Green Vets. Thank you, Janet and Phillipa for going the extra mile and sowing bespoke padded liners for the dog kennels!

That’s all we could fit in the picture. There are more!
