Our affiliations
Green Vets is an independent, family owned veterinary business. We are not part of a large corporate group. We are free to choose our suppliers, and where we refer our patients to.
Referral services
We are not restricted in referring our patients to specific referral centres. We recommend referral centres based on the patient’s specific needs, the referral surgeon’s expertise, and the client’s available budget.
Laboratory services
We choose laboratory services based on a balanced evaluation about cost, speed of service, and expertise.
Where possible, we choose independent, high quality services, in line with our own ethos.
Histopathology: we typically use Cytopath, a Herefordshire based laboratory wholly owned and operated by its Veterinary Surgeon directors.
General Lab Work: we use VPG in Leeds, who employ their own couriers to ensure sample integrity is maintained from our practice to their laboratory. Samples are temperature controlled, picked up at the end of each working day, and delivered directly to their laboratory. They are owned by JAB holding company , a privately-held parent company of petservice concepts such as Pinnacle Pet Insurance Group (Animal Friends, EveryPaw, PetProtect), On-Line Pharmacies (Viovet) and food brands like Pret-a-Manger and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts.
Feline viral testing: we use the Veterinary Diagnostic Service of the University of Glasgow.
Export titer testing: we use Biobest Lab, owned by VetPartners.
Specific hormone essays: we use Nationwide Labs, owned by NVS.
We charge a standard processing fee and interpretation fee for all external lab work, but we do not mark-up the lab fees. We do this to keep even the most expensive external laboratory tests affordable for our clients.
Medicine suppliers
As per the RCVS code of conduct, Veterinary surgeons should ensure that the medicines they supply are obtained from reputable sources and in accordance with the legislation. This means we are limited to a number of suppliers that are on the Register of veterinary-only Wholesale Dealers Sites.
We use Covetrus as our main medicine wholesaler. They are a private company, headquartered in Portland, Maine, USA. They own brands like Veterinary Instrumentation and Kruuse.
In order to purchase MSD products, we use NVS (owned by Patterson Companies, Inc whose animal health headquarters is in Loveland, Colorado, USA).
For specially formulated veterinary drugs, we use Summit, (part of an international company based in Ontario, Canada) and BOVA (owned by Vimian Group AB, a Sweden-based veterinary company).
Cremation services
We use PCS for all cremation services. They are owned by VetPartners. We also work with smaller, independent crematoria such as Bushy Hill, where clients prefer an alternative.
We charge a cremation processing fee for both communal and individual cremations, but we do not mark-up the individual cremation urns and caskets. The prices for these containers can be found on the PCS website.
Consumables
Where possible, we source our consumables from small, independent, local, and ethical companies, although we also use larger national suppliers to keep cost down.
Our suppliers are:
JAK in Sheriff Hutton (owned by Woodley Equipment Company Ltd, a private company in Bolton.
The Vet Store (owned by Mahr – a private company based in Bradford).
The ethical cooperative Suma.
IMS a private company based in Stockport.
Out of hours provision
On most days and nights our vets and nurses operate an in-house out-of-hours service for our registered clients, and you will usually be able to speak to our own duty vet or nurse if you are concerned about your pet outside of our normal opening hours.
In exceptional circumstances, where we are unable to provide the emergency service at our Green Lane Surgery, emergencies will be directed to Swift Emergency. They are part of IVC Evidensia.
