Green Vets has a vacancy for an additional Veterinary Surgeon

Green Vets is an independent veterinary practice in the city of York where clinical excellence and genuine care for patients are delivered using environmentally sustainable practices.

Many veterinary businesses follow standard formulas dictated by ever-larger corporate structures. In contrast, we are fiercely independent.

We pride ourselves in our traditional, no-targets, personal client care, whilst using state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to deliver the first opinion-plus veterinary service we are now renowned for.

We have three very experienced vets, respective surgical, imaging, and medicine certificate holders who not only are able to provide a wide range of treatments for our patients at our single-site, state-of-the-art clinic but are also keen to help any new members of staff develop their skills in these disciplines. Add to this experienced and friendly Veterinary Nurses and we have an amazing team of professionals!

We take our Green mission seriously with important choices like purchasing all our electricity from suppliers who support the development of renewable energy sources to the smallest details like our uniforms which are made from plastic bottles recovered from the sea.

We also have the U.K.’s first all-electric veterinary ambulance to reduce our carbon footprint even further.

Our vet-designed surgery was renovated using energy-saving and renewable materials, with an abundance of natural light and ergonomic workstations. Add to that a fun and supportive team, resulting in a wonderful place to work.

We are looking for a Veterinary Surgeon with at least one year’s relevant experience who is equally enthusiastic about our founding principles and who would like to help us grow our client base in the fabulous historic city of York.

A range of candidates will be considered: full-time or part-time, there is an option to participate in our outstanding critical care and emergency service that provides us with interesting and rewarding cases, but the position would work equally well for someone who prefers not to do any out-of-hours work. The position can be tailored to clinicians with a medical or surgical interest, or to those who prefer a consulting-only role.

A positive attitude and the willingness to make it work as a fully functional member of the team are more important than experience. We can help you build a solid foundation in surgery and medicine with the help of our certificate holders and experienced nursing team. The practice has a large and varied caseload to facilitate this.

Excellent communication skills are essential, so we are looking for someone who can express complex clinical concepts effortlessly in English, both spoken and written.

York’s history goes back nearly two thousand years when a Roman legion marching north through England built a fort where two rivers met. Eight centuries later, the Vikings invaded. During the medieval period, York rivaled York, and the city walls still stand as proud as they did in the 14th century. In the 19th century, it became the birthplace of Rowntree’s and Terry’s, effectively making it the chocolate capital of the country. Every era has left traces in York; besides cobbled alleys, Victorian tearooms, haunted pubs, and the unmissable Medieval Minster, there are cutting-edge art galleries, an abundance of pubs and restaurants offering a culinary range from traditional to exotic, including several Michelin star restaurants and SPARK – A community of small businesses created from old shopping containers. It has a welcoming atmosphere and diversity of eating, drinking, and shopping experiences that make it a popular destination.

York was voted the ‘Best Place to Live’ by the Sunday Times, in 2018; besides being rich in culture and heritage, it’s a vibrant modern city still making history.

What the position has to offer:

  • The unique opportunity to work in a genuinely caring setting, both for our patients and for the wider environment.
  • Be part of a friendly supportive and experienced team of 2 vets and 4 nurses that includes anaesthesia, internal medicine, and surgical certificate holders
  • Work in our superb vet-designed clinic with the U.K.’s first all-electric veterinary ambulance
  • RCVS, VDS fees, and CPD funded
  • A 4-day week with shared Saturday mornings and out-of-hours per the rota
  • 6 weeks holiday
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience
